Grubb Estate
Located on both sides of Wood Street at the Riverfront Promenade, the
Grubb estate included a mansion, two large brick Victorian cottages, a
tannery, a brewery, and a brickyard.
The Grubbs were abolitionists, and tunnels between the houses and the
riverbank were used to hide escaped slaves.
The mansion, "Delaware House," was used by a non-profity charity
in the 1990's. Both cottages remain private residences.
